About DORI

We are so excited and proud to announce our next YOU ARE OK. collaborator A) Because it’s exciting and B) Because some of you may recognize Dori as one of our stylists.

At Local Honey, our culture is ruled by what we call The Three Cs: Creativity, Community & Confidence. We encourage all of our stylists to pursue creative endeavors that inspire them in the salon and in their daily life. Dori is a creative through and through and we are so honored to have her unique vision as part of Local Honey’s history.

Keep your eyes peeled at our locations for her design. The merch will be available online and in each of our shops.

Q & A

1.     Where are you from?

I am from a small town in Texas, but Nashville has been my home since 2012.

2. What inspires your art?

Pleasure and the journey of self-discovery are central themes in my work. Making art has become a sort of introspective practice in observing my own limiting beliefs and true desires-- a safe space for exploration. I’m inspired by what’s on the other side of the stories of shame we all carry and the beauty in the process of undoing.

 3. What does "YOU ARE OK." mean to you? What came to mind when starting this design?

“YOU ARE OK.” reminds me that everything I need is already within me. I can shift my perspective, ask for support, choose happiness, set boundaries… and I am allowed to feel empowered in doing so!

Local Honey’s Three C’s came to mind when creating this design-- creativity, community, and confidence.  Inspired by the collaboration between stylist and client, I referenced photos of the unique individuals that come through our salon. As a hairdresser, myself, I often think about what it means to facilitate this physical transformation that makes people feel something. Hair is personal. Hair is emotional. The energy and conversations exchanged in and behind the chair have shown me that self-expression is the most important way we grow and connect with one another. There is real power in embracing your authentic self, and I aim to celebrate it.

 4. What other creative things are you working on?

My Etsy shop is in the works! You will find prints, stickers, chainmaille creations, and more. Follow me on Instagram to stay updated. :)

 5. How can someone purchase your art?

You can contact me via Instagram-- @anexcessoftenderness. I am open to select custom prints of my work as well as commissions.
